I don't like to take the subway but I travel 30 min a day on the Q train to work on my computer while I enjoy a blue smoothie bowl in the heart of upper east side.
I highly recommend if you work remotely like I do -

You don't really need me to tell you that Hutch + Waldo is good, because usually there is enough of a crowd to make that clear. It's small, so it doesn't take much to get a crowd, and they do a pretty brisk takeout business.
My friends and I were hungry and tired and thrilled to see that there was plenty of space for us on random weeknight. And adorable dogs in the patio section, which very much added to the experience for us. Sitting on a patio with a beer, friends, and dogs is what I want.
The pesto pasta was a slightly healthier version of the classic -- and delicious, of course. The kale salad my friend got was huge and she was super happy with it.
The space is cute, the staff was super friendly, and things are reasonably priced for the neighborhood. -

I had the crispy quinoa kale salad. I'm always a little apprehensive about ordering a kale salad at a restaurant because you just never know what you're going to get- if the kale will going be fresh, too bitter, adequately massaged, the right amount of dressing with the right flavor, etc. But I took a shot because of the added intrigue of the "crispy" part. Wow! All worries melted on first mouthful-crunch made it fun and somehow juicier if that's possible with kale! The kale was perfectly cut and coated and massaged with the slightly tangy tahini dressing. My only issue with this salad was that although the greens were broken up with some sweet chunks of pear, it needed a 3rd ingredient. Like, I would have killed for the option of a protein, a soft boiled egg or two, some nicely seasoned tofu, seitan or even the usual fall back of grilled chicken. Just something to consider, H&W friends.
My server was sweet- I swear I detected a "yay!" in her "yes" when I ordered. Perhaps that's from the lilt in their accent, nonetheless it was lovely.
This place is tiny as others have mentioned but so chill and charming with great chill cafe music. On warm weeknights I think it would be perfect for a glass of wine and a snack. I'd love to see a local cheese plate or other appetizer added.
Can't wait to come back for brunch! Hope I can get in! -

My understanding of Australian brunch, as described by my Australian friend, is that you take American brunch and make it a notch healthier. So here you have eggs and toast but with more veggies. It's good, for sure. The scrambled eggs are delightfully airy. But it's also overpriced, cause all brunches Australian are pretty trendy these days.
Ultimately, the food is well executed if not particularly unique. Sometimes there is a twist, like the popular blue smoothie bowl. It's really vibrantly blue. But it's at its core a fairly standard smoothie bowl.
What I take issue with is the virtue signaling. This place advertises as sustainable. As plastic free. But everything comes in a disposable container, even if you dine in. Skipping right past reduce and reuse, compostable containers do not make you environmentally friendly. But to proudly advertise as such is just plain hypocritical. -

Great Breakfast spot at east 81st and 2nd.
Like a lot of spots in MY, tough to find a table but once you get one the food is fantastic.
No restrooms BTW.
Very clean and service was excellent.
